Optimism? Did someone highjack the keyboard?!

This week, the ‘hottake’ will pivot to a place I haven’t gone before: optimism! And despite the way some have interpreted “The Beatings” and “Peak Oil USA”- they are part of a broader discussion.  A discussion of transition; of hope; and of “What Comes Next?”.

Hamilton fans will appreciate this week’s tie to last week’s edition of “You’ll be Back” and be savvy to the fact that musicals often use the same score to share related, but different messages. Longtime readers of my hottakes will know this tie was purely accidental: I wish I was that clever. I am not.

When I started my career- the KPI was F&D.  As shale took hold, production growth became the new KPI. However- the core business is the same as it always has been: invest a dollar and turn it into $2.  The change through time is how investors want companies to use that excess dollar.

Like a musical, the series this week will focus on related, but different themes: how oil and gas is no longer a growth vehicle and will transition to a yield play; how Peak oil in the US will have the direct benefit of positively impacting climate change; how falling rig count and consolidation is a good thing for investors and employees alike; and finally – the future of energy, employment and why I’m optimistic.
