Pick your peer group

Having never published a book prior to Friday, I was more focused on the major points: front page, content, dedication, author’s note and what it would feel like to share all my flaws with the world. What I didn’t think enough about was how to categorize the book.

So you will believe me when I say that I’m not totally clear what I was thinking when I answered the question: “What category is this book?” with the phrases: “Business, Entrepreneurship, Comedy AND Economics”.   It must have felt reasonable at the time because that’s exactly what I typed and didn’t think about it again. Until yesterday.

That was the day I received a note of congratulations that said that I was the #1 selling new release book on Amazon… in economics.

First off – I owe a huge apology to all the economists that purchased the book.  And yes, it is true – I do talk about supply-demand economics but it’s a very small part of the book. I spend a lot more time talking about Ligers. So sorry.

Nonetheless, a huge thank you is owed to everyone that did buy the book and made it #1 in its very small, and I’m not sure that accurate, category.

If you didn’t know better, self selecting small categories to succeed sounds more like the criteria for bonus plans for MGMT teams at E&P’s these days…
